Itinerary 1:
7/8 day safari in Kenya
The following itinerary offers a seven day safari to the Masai Mara in Kenya. The Masai Mara and the great migration of wildebeest that passes through it is one of the most exceptional living wonders of the world. From your luxury camp in the bush you will witness the wonders of Africa and its great beasts in a setting of privacy and breathtaking beauty.
Day 1:
Arrive at Nairobi Airport.
You will be transfered to a small charter plane, which will fly you directly into Governors’ Ilmoran Camp, in the Masai Mara Reserve.
You will be served a snack and given time to relax on the private veranda of your luxury tent.
There will be a late afternoon game drive, followed by a candlelight dinner in the bush.
Day 2:
Early morning hot-air balloon safari over the Masai Mara with the sunrise. Should you be visiting the Masai Mara during the period of the great Migration, one of Africa’s spectacular sights, you will watch in wonder as thousands of herds of zebra and wildebeest migrate across the plains from the Serengeti.
The balloon safari will be followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush.
The rest of the day can be enjoyed as you wish and an afternoon game drive is offered, followed by a candlelight dinner.
Day 3:
You will be offered a walking safari through the bush, guided by an experienced Masai. This is an opportunity to experience the wild in its own domain.
On your return to the lodge, breakfast will be served under the giant trees, with fresh fruit and hot-baked bread, together with a full cooked breakfast prepared before your eyes.
You have the option of visiting Lake Victoria or the local Masai village should you want, or simply relaxing on your veranda.
An evening game drive is offered, once again followed by candlelight dinner under the stars.
Day 4:
Depart Governors’ Ilmoran Camp by charter flight / road to Shompole.
About Governors Ilmoran Camp
The camp is situated in the Masai Mara, and is recreated in the atmosphere of an original hunting camp. Hidden amongst great trees along the Mara River, the camp has just ten tents, each with a private veranda, shower and flush toilets.
During the day meals are served under giant trees, and in the evening cordon-bleu candlelight dinners are served in the bush.
During the period of the great Migration, which is considered as one of the last great natural wonders of the world, 1.4 million wildebeest and zebra are driven by instinct to migrate from the Serengeti in search of the seasonal grasses. It is a breathtaking sight to witness, one that should be experienced at least once in your lifetime.
Day 4 cont.:
Arrive at Shompole, where you will be shown to your “open-spaced” tented room overlooking the breathtaking expanse of the Great Rift Valley.
Shompole aims to create an atmosphere of relaxation and harmony. It has been designed with artistic style, using natural materials, white walls and water as a prime feature.
Day 4 – 7:
Stay at Shompole.
Activities at Shompole are unscheduled and organised according to your preferences and decided at your leisure. Each tented room, which includes vast windows and a high-canopied roof, has an en-suite lounge that overlooks the horizon, a bathroom with a view and a private pool. Here massages can be arranged, including manicures and facials.
Activities include a trip down to Lake Natron to see the impressive pink flamingoes, where you can enjoy a scenic picnic by the lake. Early morning and evening walks are available; night drives; sundowners and even nights spent out in romantic fly-camps can be organised. A day trip to the pre-historic site of Olorgesaille portrays a glimpse into the history of the area.
About Shompole
Shompole lies on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, overlooking sun-baked plains and riverine forest, great volcanic mountains and lush green wetlands. Shompole is the creation of the imagination in partnership with the Masai people of the area. Constructed to emphasise beauty of natural materials and flowing water.
Shompole consists of six tented rooms, which therefore guarantees personal and first class service. The main lounge and dining area consists of a high thatch roof overlooking Mount Shompole and the Rift Valley, this has been designed at various levels providing additional quiet areas.
Should you like to take your meals either by your tent, by the main pool or in the bush, special arrangements can be made to suit your needs.
